Ennis: Our Town

Ennis is the Capital of County Clare and is located in the heart of the county along the River Fergus. Below we have picked out some of our favourite and most famous landmark in our town.

Here we are at the Daniel O'Connell monument. This monument is located at the center of Ennis and is known as 'The Height' or 'The Square'! Daniel O'Connell was known as 'Liberator' because he looked for rights for Irish Catholics.

Here we are at 'The Market'. At the middle of the roundabout there is a sculpture of a market scene, with a cow and two farmers.

This is the biggest church in Ennis, 'The Cathedral'. You can see some of Mr. Bell's class sitting on a sculpture of a giant hand!

In the pictures above you can see the Éamon DeValera statue and behind the statue you can see the Ennis courthouse. De Valera was one of the men who led Ireland to its Independence.

Above you can see Mr. O' Reilly's class beside a famous landmark in Ennis called Steele's Rock. Tom Steele used to sit on the rock and was a friend of Daniel O Connell. You can also see some of the wildlife that live along the River Fergus.

This is the most famous bridge in Ennis, The Club Bridge. It crosses the River Fergus at the centre of the town.

Above Mr.O'Reilly's class can been seen beside 'Knox's Bridge, which is just 2 minutes walk from our school.
